Hi to everyone Seaside Point, 6 to 8 ft. offshore wind, 77 degrees, 4 to 10 people out. That will take some of the sting out of my post- Phils vacation blues !
Surfboards for sale in Manila? There was an Aussie fellow by the name of Stuart C., Cant remember the last name, he was a shaper and fine surfer who lived off and on at Cloud 9. He wanted to build boards in Cloud 9 but he said it was way too much cost and hassle importing the materials.
Surfboards for sale in Manila? Thanks, Mabini girl. Yup, that Stuart. He did well in the contests at Cloud 9. A nice guy known for his dog, Bomber, and for the tiny girls bike he cruised around on !
Don't blame America, blame Bush "War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace" Saddam must do as the United Nations instructs. Bush may do as he pleases. Superpower logic. I'm sad, outraged, embarrassed, but mostly mad as hell. I find the slaughter of innocent people, whether they be American or Iraqi, to be a tragic thing. I just wanted it to be known that there are many, many people here in the U.S who believe regime change should begin at home. Peace, Jerry
Don't blame America, blame Bush Well Sponjah, as for myself, whenever, wherever I travel, I'm going to tell people I'm Canadian !
Don't blame America, blame Bush I wasn't serious about the Canadian thing. I can say I'm proud to be an American against the war. And to think this all came about because we have a "president" who in fact, lost the election. It's pretty sad that more U.S. citizens were outraged by Bill Clinton's not being able to keep his zipper up than are outraged by the current genocide taking place.
ransacked in the surfcamp! What surf camp ? Location ?
Where is everyone? Forum's getting boring. Millie, you don't know what real cold is ! My body is in Oregon, but my mind is in Siargao. Does that count ? Talked to a friend in G.L. last week, waves have been pretty good. The waves are terrible here this time of year. Hurry up Sept.
Where is everyone? Forum's getting boring. Millie, are you going to be visiting Siargao ? If so, let me know. I'll give you the names of some friends you can "drop in on".
A surfer's government Having been a local at one of the most "localized" point breaks on the planet these past 25 years, I agree wholeheartedly with Knefuts observations and opinions.
a new concern for phils surfers? Lots of The Great White Ones here in Oregon also. They like to eat the seals. Unfortunately, surfers in black wetsuits, paddling their boards, look like seals.
What is ur worst surf experience? The first time I surfed Cloud 9 was years ago when the only way you could get to the island was by pump boat from Surigao City. It took 4 1/2 hours. Paddled to the break from behind, so I wasent sure how big it was or how it was breaking. First wave I took off on sucked out like I couldent belive and I got launched and worked sooo bad. When I finally came up in about 2 feet of water my rash guard was pulled over my face and my board shorts were around my knees. When I finally made it back outside, my wife and daughter who were on the boat asked how my first wave was. Of course I told them I ripped it to shreads !
Is there any Fils. surfer competing outside Phils? Gerry Lopez...
7th Aurora Surfing Cup You know, many people tell me I bare a striking resemblance to Luke Landrigan ?! ![]()
7th Aurora Surfing Cup Hey, I was just kidding. I've never seen Luke. For Luke's sake, I hope I don't resemble him in the least !
New Surf Charter Service! "An adventure whose outcome is already known is no adventure at all."
New Surf Charter Service! Well kingofsports, it was just a joke, albeit a crude, and looking back, a rather assanine one. Caught up in the mob-mentality of the moment no doubt. Ofcourse I'm an American and as you know we are shown by our leaders to talk first and think second. [ or think not at all ] The future unfolds whether we are ready or not and one can only hope that the majority have concern and love for their fellow man and their planet. And I must say, as I have recently learned of a surf camp in the Phils. [ which shall remain nameless ] that offers along with it's other amenities, young girl "escorts" for their guests, that perhaps your operation isn't so damnable after all. Offending messages have been deleted. And in the words of Mr. Rodney King, " Can't we all just get along "? Peace, Jerry
::PHOTOS::June/July Philippines Ah, Mill... Your breaking my heart. Home is where the hut is. ![]()
Guess where Judging by the architecture and building materials, I'm guessing Vancouver Island, Canada. If you use a magnifying glass you can see a sea lion in the barrel !
longboarders=people who cant surf? ... anyway, if surfing was only about being/looking cool, everyone would be riding a kneeboard !! ha,ha,ha. Right Millie ?
longboarders=people who cant surf? Thanks,Mill You brought an old man happiness on his birthday. Just for that your invited over to our place in G.L. for dinner if your in the neighborhood late Feb. early Mar. My wife makes the best tamales on Siargao. [ well, the only tamales on Siargao ] Cheers, Jerry
longboarders=people who cant surf? You know, tamales. "A highly seasoned dish made of chopped meat and crushed peppers rolled in cornmeal dough, wrapped in corn husks, and steamed " As in Mexican food. Taco's, burritos, enchilada's etc. And believe me, you CAN and WILL wait to be old ! Happy Holidays to ya !
longboarders=people who cant surf? Thanks, Mark. Diden't get a birthday surf in. The local bouy said 23 ft. !! And believe it or not, the day before was 3 ft. Ah, surfing in Oregon.
tracks I thought that the "newly discovered Super wave" looked kinda familier. I've saved a lot of old surfing type magazines over the years that had any thing to do with the Philippines in them. And lo and behold, in the June 1997 issue of Surfing magazine you will find several pictures of what I guess can't be called the "newly discoverd" wave anymore. It was a quite large, rather silly story of "discovery" titled "White Men with Surfboards, A Virgin Voyage Through Uncharted Asain Waters" Photos by John Callahan, "story" by Tor Johnson. Along with pictures of the super wave [ at about 8 ft. ] were the usual pictures of Cloud 9, Rock Island etc. It's almost 2004, friends. I doubt there are many waves left on this earth that one could claim as 'newly discovered'.
tracks It's just my own opinion, but the word "discoverd" to me would mean a place no one had surfed before, EVER. And as you know Mark, there are probebly tens of thousands of traveling surfers like your self who surf the world over and probebly have a hard time telling their best friends about their discoveries, let alone going so far as to put them in magazines for the hoardes to see. My point is [ I think ] is here we have two groups, both claiming discovery while I suspect there is a good chance there were others that surfed this spot and would never tell a soul. I'll send you the pictures out of the mag. We don't get Tracks here, only Australian Surfing Life. I saw the Tracks pictures online. So I diden't see all of them and couldent reed the story.
