Man-eating white sharks sighted off Bataan
By Ding Cervantes
Publish Date: [Saturday, May 24, 2003]

LIMAY, Bataan — Fisheries experts and villagers here are baffled by the sightings of man-eating white sharks in the waters of this coastal town.

For a while, fishermen here and in neighboring Orion have refrained from venturing off the coast for fear that they might suffer the fate of a resident of Barangay Luz whose entire arm was snapped off by a white shark a few weeks ago.

"It was the first reported sighting of white sharks in the area," said fisheries enforcement officer Danny Abrera.

White sharks, scientifically known as carchorodon carcharias, have been called "man-eaters" in the United States and "white death" in Australia.

White sharks have also been sighted in the waters of Palawan and Mindanao.

Abrera said reported sightings of the marine predators have caused panic among local fishermen, particularly dynamite users who have to retrieve their catch under water after the blast.

But he said the panic has dissipated following news that a white shark, a pregnant female about six meters long, was killed late last month.

"But they reported seeing at least two (white sharks). The local folk presume that the smaller one is male, although they also reported seeing other smaller white sharks," Abrera said.

Lots of The Great White Ones here in Oregon also. They like to eat the seals. Unfortunately, surfers in black wetsuits, paddling their boards, look like seals.

hmmmm.....there are more chances of being kille by a road accident or shot at by a Abu Sayaff than eating by a shark...  smiley

crazy things always happen over here!!LOVE IT!!hehe.umm...had a 10 hour bus trip to this place to pick up a  board ...10 hours stuck in between two super drunk guys and i had a fever, flu and generally felt hellish. Some seedy military guys were passing moves onto me when we had a stopover in this mountain region.EWWW..got to destination.picked up board...10 hours back and got home and had to be hospitalised for a night.Ended up having a small dose of pnuemonia(spelling??).

went to the market with my mum on..FRIDAY!to buy some veges and fish and stuff...was coming back to my uncles house in a pedicab and there was a pregnant girl in there with us who went into labour.Mum and I took her to this old witch doctor ladies place, but she wasnt there(I'M STAYING IN THE THE MIDDLE OF A JUNGLE OK!!!),but the baby decided she didnt want to wait any longer...so..mum and i delivered a baby!!hahaha. We were only supposed to get fish and veges....hehe.
