has anyone tried bringing a longboard on a plane (US-Philippines)? checked in of course! do they charge extra for this? how much? will a board bag be enough in terms of protection? my bro just moved to carslbad... i think that's between LA and san diego (1 mile from the beach... kakainggit!) and he might be able to get me one and bring it over around april or may. does it help if he has that Sports traveler thing by PAL? it usually gives you extra baggage allowance for scuba gear and that's really heavy but i'm not sure about a 7-9 foot board! i'd like to figure out the shortest possible board for my skill level too (beginner) so it's easier to bring to LU or where ever. maybe those hybrids or funboards. thanks cool

this helps me a LOT millie. thanks smiley cool

by armspan you mean 1 arms length right? i hope so because if it's armspan like wingspan for birds, that's gonna be a pretty big board! twice my height! wow...

so that's an extra $75. i thought you just substitute it with one of your heavy bags since you're allowed two of 70 lbs. each and that's it, free. oh well...

well, i guess that's just gonna make owning a board a bit more expensive...  undecided

dont know the wave conditions but zambales is on the WEST side. the popular ones that i've heard of on the east side of luzon would be baler in aurora. another one would be catanduanes... way down south of luzon (bicol)

has anyone tried going to LU from zambales? i have a very short vacation coming up and a 3 hour trip to zambales really sounds good. however, if there aren't any waves there then maybe i can proceed to LU. i checked it out in the map and it doesn't look so good - hugs the coast and loops around type ...but that's just the map (really optimistic here  smiley). has anyone tried this? how long will it take? distance?

i also heard that the waves usually die out around march or april. What are my chances of having good waves at those places around the third week of march? thanks.  cool i'll be driving most probably.

that's a great idea! i think sebay's from la union has that but doesn't seem to work anymore. i'm not sure though, could have been a still shot that they used to update. anyways, it's stuck on october 2000. it would really be nice if we had webcams for all the breaks here in the phils. cool

until recently i've always thought that baler was south of manila, got a copy of the lonely planet travel guide and realized that it's actually northeast of manila. on the map baler is nearer to manila than LU. Does anyone know how to get there? travel time? road conditions? recommended accomodations? boards for rent? surf season?unfortunately, lonely planet doesn't give driving directions  undecided. thanks  grin grin cool

yeah, i asked a friend from cabanatuan and he said the same thing. it's only 75 km from cabanatuan but it's gonna take about 5 hours to get to baler. really bad roads. he said average speed is like 30 km/hr so forget that. maybe when i have more time to spare... or they get those roads fixed. hehe  wink thanks kage! when's surfing season there anyway?  huh

i'm almost sure of going there two weeks from now. march 15-17 hopefully. how are the waves there right now? would it be ok if i ask you for a live wave forecast right before i leave manila? i don't know what they mean when they say "it gets pretty flat out there" so if your free and everything goes well maybe we'll have that in depth discussion of your S stroke over there. hehe grin grin. thanks sponj.  grin

these stores are more popularly known as "quiksilver" stores since that's all they sell. more of clothes really... some accessories and stuff (probably a leash, wax, and a sticker. hehe). i wouldn't really consider them as surf shops but it's the closest thing we have here. there's another surfworld store at rockwell (powerplant mall) in makati that's not on the list above. right beside that store is "stoked" they also sell skate and wakeboard stuff and henna tattooing grin (not sure if they do the real thing  ). i don't know if stoked has other branches. i'll see if i can get the number of these stores. i'll just post again when i get it. smiley cool. hope this helps. cool
