can anyone tell me how to get to zambales where that surf resort is? do they rent boards there? i'm thinking it might be a good idea to check it out since i live in manila and zambales is a bit closer than LU (well, subic is). Is it anything like LU? ![]()

Ocean hi! There is one humble smalltime surfspot in Zambales that is dedicated for beginners and manila surf enthusiasts. Its around 156 kms. from Balintawak North Express Toll Gate. You might wanna check it out sometime. Sincerely, Dodo U. Ramos

hey Dodo, can you give us driving directions to your place? i really wanna check out that place especially no that you've said that it's only 156 kms from balintawak. that's just half the distance compared to LU's 300 kms of driving. Is there a place there that rents boards? what time of the year is surfing season there? thanks. ![]() oCean

Ocean hi! The spot is just 45 mins travel time from Subic. From mla. just take the route going to Subic or SBMA. Enter SBMA(via Tipo gate) then exit at SBMA-Kalaklan gate. Then proceed North to San Narciso Town where the break is located... Boards are available. Season and time of the year to surf is similar to almost any western luzon's surf. -Dodo U. Ramos

not yet sponjah. i wanted to go to zambales last weekend but i'm just so busy right now. doesn't look like i'll be surfing till around march. i'll try to go to LU too if i can squeeze it in. i am amazed by how people from this forum seem to be full time surfers... sounds like you guys just "float" from one surfing trip to another. wish i had more free time like you guys. i've been wanting to go surfing so bad that i've been dreaming about it. i guess the closest thing to surfing that i can do right now is talk about it. that's why i'm in this forum. thanks to everyone for keeping me sane. ![]() **sigh** ![]() oCean... still dreaming. ![]()

heya ocean... i'm not a full-time surfer,i don't think any of us are,but some of us are damn bloody lucky to live close to the beach.i've purposely gone against my school guidance counsellors advice,my parents hopes of me becoming an amazing doctor or other high paying-respected job,my friends opinions and narrow-minded town folk and based my "occupation" around surfing, just so i can get out there as much as possible...sacrifice luv! ![]() but there aint NOTHING wrong with being a WEEKEND WARRIOR!i think that the peeps who dont have the opp. to surf every single day or to see the ocean everyday really savour their time in the ocean more then those who can just ride to the beach and check the surf every single morning... i was just flicking through a surf mag and i found this letter a guy wrote in and i thought of what you guys said....i think it applies more to those who are in office type jobs I'd really love to see you guys practicing this at work tomorrow...hahaha ![]() "It's mid-morning on a Tuesday and 36hours from my last surf.It was good-glassy,4 foot, sucky and not too crowded-but what can I do now?How can I get that feeling of freedom back?Well,I use a vision to escape from my land of debits and credits, regulatory standards and questionable corporate values. It sounds wacky, but it works. First, sit in front of your money deriver(ie C,machine or desk).Take your shoes off, straighten your legs, breath deeply and visualise yourself sitting out the back.Use a paper printout or your hand to fan your face.Bonus, your luck has come as the winds turn offshore! The mood is relaxed, but full of anticipation, the water tempered.Telephones squawk like curious seagulls.Take a sip of water, wet your lips, imagine the salty taste. With cat-like sixth sense, you are alerted to a bigger force than you.Turn around,shit!-a fat cat(your boss)!Focus on him like you'd examine an approaching set.Look to your left and at your colleague, give him the kind of look you know means commitment.Tap the desk as you paddle for it.Feel the glide of your board as the wave builds and you snap to upright position in a swift, fluid motion. You let out a "YEAH!" while poor Maurice in the next booth/cubicle looks at you strangely. It doesnt matter, you begin your fall to freedom.Wow,feel the rush.Look deep into your computer/desk/machine and make a reference point for your bottom turn.Feel the inward pressure on your calves as you make the backhand gouge. The drive and the tension from the board feels great.Up the face of the wave, swivel on your chair to the left and say "thwack" as the bad boy shoulder is hit,and release down the wave and back to the centre.Repeat the move with another "thwack".The mail lady moves behind you.Boy,she's felt your spray and seen a glimpse of your fins.And...she likes them!Your creative juices are tearing this wave apart. It finally runs its course and you turn to the left and peel off.You look back into the office haze, content with the feeling that comes from a good wave. You see the smiles, the anguish and the approval from the faces of the distant crew. You know what they're thinking and also what the fat cat(your boss) is not thinking and could never understand. -The Garson, via e-mail-" the letter is in an Oz surf mag..I think that explains it all ..sorry if i've broken every copyright law too...sorry for my massive amounts of crapping on too ![]()

dont know the wave conditions but zambales is on the WEST side. the popular ones that i've heard of on the east side of luzon would be baler in aurora. another one would be catanduanes... way down south of luzon (bicol)

You need to be an experienced surfer to surf Catanduanes the waves are way too heavy for beginners. Cheers ![]()

Hi onats, Zambales is on the west side of the Philippines. Been there with my girlfriends a couple of times during the southwest monsoon, but we have'nt caught a single descent wave to ride. It's either big close out or 1 footer. Waves are inconsistent. Access is also difficult if you're commuting. La Union is still the best spot for me. Cool place and (cute)locals. You can even check other spots up north if you want.

Onats! Zambales can be promising esp. Pundakit(tube) if your in the right season... locals are friendly too.. ![]() & it's the nearest spot from Manila (2 1/2 to 3 hrs) if your commuting, ride a Victory liner (Monumento terminal) then drop off at San Narciso then take a trike ask the driver to take you to Crystal beach (apprx 5mins..) look for Dodo Ramos (surfer & resort owner) peace

during a good swell id rather surf zambales, nearer to manila than san juan, and theres lots of spots to check and choose from anyway. then again if theres a good swell in china sea i might as well check bataan or corregidor right? better yet, batangas or cavite. anyway, if you want to be certain that youll get nice waves and convenient access just go to san juan you dont have to look far for an okay break ![]()

has anyone tried going to LU from zambales? i have a very short vacation coming up and a 3 hour trip to zambales really sounds good. however, if there aren't any waves there then maybe i can proceed to LU. i checked it out in the map and it doesn't look so good - hugs the coast and loops around type ...but that's just the map (really optimistic here ). has anyone tried this? how long will it take? distance?i also heard that the waves usually die out around march or april. What are my chances of having good waves at those places around the third week of march? thanks. i'll be driving most probably.

slim to nada/none/zero. zambales to la union is an ordeal, 6 hours thru terrible traffic in small towns/cities along a very circuitous way. better to go straight to La union

Zambales to La Union will soon be reached via a shorter route. Once this super road is finished, manila based surfers surfing Zambales surf spots can travel to La Union surf spots or the other way around in no time.

my personal opinion, i think youd be extremely lucky to find good waves in infanta. therell be waves alright but i bet theyd suck bigtime! havent seen good waves during all three of my past trips to quezon. ![]() better if you can check polillo island. if youre keen on the east side, try baler.
