There are more than 60 surf charter boats operating in Indonesia, and empty waves are still ridden by many surfers.  There is now one charter boat operating in Philippines.  Is that a problem?

I agree some of the reactions to the new Surf Charter Service as posted on this board have been hysterical and exaggerated over-reactions. To have ONE boat operating over the entire Pacific Coast of the Philippines is not a crowd or exploitation problem. Land camps, with their rubbish, walkmans, and western magazines have far more  impact on local populations and cultures than boat charters. If the Philippines were a Mentawai-caliber surf charter business opportunity, someone would have done it years ago. Why aren't the numerous dive charter boats operating in the Philippines considered "evil"and "exploitative"? Live-aboard dive charters have been operating in Philippines for years, and they don't get this kind of bs pinned on their operations.

The market will decide if surf charters are a viable business in the Philippines, not sentiment or skewed economics. So, let's let Scott get on with it and wish him and his crew a good season.

Biggest typhoon of the WestPac season - a freaking monster. Offshore wiinds from mid-Mindanao south. Serious chargers, psychos, get on out there!

The biggest and baddest supertyphoon in the westpac for quite some time - 26W. The swell is going to be HUGE.

Yep - 26W registered 190kt winds and 49ft seas at it's peak, so that is the biggest typhoon in the westpac region in quite awhile.

Good to hear Turtles got over to Baler, he is famous in the Philippines so it is hard for him to get away for a sesh - meetings with GMA and all.

Would be nice to hear from others who got waves off this monster typhoon; give up the lowdown, y'all - no need to mention spots if they are "secret" -

Whomever made the connection between the "Superwave" and my previous material from 1997 is correct. It is the same wave we found on a boat charter with Torsten, Chris, Sean, ect six years ago and published initially in ING, later in Surfer, and a cover shot of Chris Malloy for Action Asia in Hong Kong. If the Tracks angle is they discovered a new wave; sorry but that just isn't true.

Very isolated place, locals said in 97 we were the first Kanos to visit since the US Marines left at the end of WWII. Scott and others have surfed it since 97 but not at size - and it does pick up a lot of swell. A LOT of swell. I've tried to get some pals onto a boat to go out there, but no one seems very interested.

I did not even want to go there this season, as it is very isolated, quite a heavy wave, most of our crew had broken most of their boards after a week of barrelling C9, and what if they break the rest of their boards and even worse; get seriously hurt in the middle of nowhere the first day of a boat charter?
