Im a filipino surfer from east coast of Nova Scotia way north of Long Island. To answer some of your question you should stick to long board for a while to get your balance and get use to the wave.If you decided to purchase a short board pick an east coast brand not the designer(Merrick,Rusty, etc.) from California. It doesnt work in the east coast waves(In my experience) unless you want to charge bigger waves in the winter or hurricane season.Wave Riding Vehicle boards are good.7.0 0r 7.5 shortboard would do for a Long Island breaks. elo... if you have a shortboard already, try and feel yourself on it.. i mean... your balance... i believe it's also the same way as when you practiced balancing with a longboard... takes time, too... but you'll eventually find your balance on laying on the shortie... standing up is almost the same as in longboard except that you have to be faster in shortboard and have to be better in balancing than in longboard coz shortboards are more wiggly... anyway, i dunno the waves there coz im just in the philippines so you have to get others advices where you can use shortboard... it doesnt really work well in white water unlike longboards.... that is all i can say.. hope anything helps.. ![]() | ||
