hey yall.  my mother and i are going back to the philippines for the month of december.  i haven't been back since i was like 2 and this time i want to SURF!    i'm used to cold water and ice-cream headaches here in seattle so i'm dying to hit warm waves.  i'm hoping to surf the last weekend in december AT LEAST and be somewhere beautiful and peaceful for new year's eve.  anyone want to make a trip?  i don't mind bussing but i'd like a partner cause my relatives are going to stress heavily if i trapse off solita and i don't want to cause grief.  and i am too scared (smart?) to go it alone.  so if ya got a car, i'll be glad to chip in da gas.  if you don't, you just have to be a good bus buddy.  a car would be coooool though.  
i don't know anything about ph surf spots but i have surfed for half my life so i can trade lessons for navigation.  english would be bonus cause my tagalog sucks and cause i love to talk.  i'll be in the north the entire time.. tarlac the first couple weeks, baguio in the middle, and manilla towards the end.
girls, boys, young, old, native, foreign, groups, individuals.... just be open and cool.  please, no psychos or perverts- cause i don't want to have to kick ass.

I MIGHT be in/around Manila about that time.I was thinking of hiring a van and going trippin round the neighbourhood-thinking of heading to Baler,but I'm not sure about the swell around that time of year...gotta check some stuff out first..but YAH!maybe we could hook up and talk each others ears off yeh!?

funny-...your local family having a big stress...sounds TOO familiar!

Going it alone..hmm..I don't really recommend it if you havent been there since you were 2,but after..I guess you could..you ALWAYS hook up with other travellers/surfers along the way-so you're vary rarely alone.

Psychos and perverts!....I'm psycho,but it's controllable..hahahaha...There was this american ex pat dOOd who offered to take me to La Union in 2000.He was about 60 years old and as greasy as they come man!!He said "I'll take to you La Union,I like surfer girls..I'll take you to the ex army base if you want-show you around"..I was like "ah huh...NOOOOOOOOOO!!GET AWAY YOU PERVERTED OLD BASTARD!!!"...watch out for em ok!They're lurking in the shadows..hahaha.

if you guys are in the philippines and want to go surfing, let me know. i just got into the philippines a couple of weeks ago and will be taking a long, relaxing break here before going back to school in the u.s.

i've been dying to hit the waves but am not too familiar with all the places here. i will probably be checking out la union first. i have been planning to go since i've been here but many of my friends are either not into surfing, or they've been busy. so, if there are other cool surf buddies out there, hit me up!  

i'll be taking my own car to wherever so if you guys want to tag along, that's cool, jet let me know. i have some friends who may be coming from out of town as well that surf, so it might be a small group going around on a little "surf safari."

MARK!!!!!WE HAVE SWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AHH!It started pushing through at about 1pm with the wind change..It's about 5 foot at my local break.There's some sections that have opened up,going for about 100metres..walling all the way through to the rocky section There was only about 12 of us out..I think a lot of people didnt expect it to come through so quickly after 4 months of NOTHING.. Duct taped my leg....VERY glamourous YAY!

Millie its flat again here but looks like something in the 3 to 4 metre mark is coming our way this Friday. Hope the winds offshore. Its been like almost a year since the swells have hit the ten foot plus band around here. My new 7 footer is finally going to get in the water. Hope it gets to your neck of the woods as well. I will take a few pics of my local if its pumping and try and post them on this site. I dont really know how to attach pics everytime I have tried it is a failure.
Stacey you watch out for the perverts over there. They are not only 60 year old foreigners I know a few Pinoys that would have you ducking for cover if you came across them. Dont stress to much there are enough good filipinos in the country to make sure you stay out of trouble. Dont believe what you read in the newspapers if they didnt print that garbage then no one would read them.
Hope its pumping where you are its certainly going to be over here in the next day or two.

I met this guy called GRUB at the Manila airport in 2001.He had just come back from surfing at Siargao..I found out he lives like 40minutes from our house!small world.I'm not sure if its the same guy tho?there's lots of GRUBS around.Espesh in Oz!

and yeh...you're right about the filipinos..haha..I'm assuming ur half flip Stacey yah?!You'll probably get the full blown hassle from SOME of the local guys-not ALL OK!!So don't write me back smacking down on me saying I'm stereotyping filipino men!

I was at a market last year near Davao by myself and these 4 local guys were sitting near one of the buildings and they were full on eyeing me out from way over the other side of the market!I kinda bent over to pick some fruit from this stall.I have this chunky tattoo on my lower back and they saw it and when I was leaving,they followed me.I left through this kinda shortcut between 2 buildings(this is near my families house)it's like an alley way..yeh I know..recipe for something bad to happen!!and I could feel them coming up behind me and then they yelled out "nice tattoo girl" and they ran up to me and like I didnt freak out or anything and they asked me if they could see it properly...so I showed them,but one of the guys kinda grabbed me from behind as he was looking at my tatt and I said "um could u please let me go-look!dont touch" and he laughed and didn't let me go so I elbowed him in the gut and ran and jumped on a jeepney that wasnt going anywhere near where I had to go!!hahaha..thats my story.THE END.

No really..don't get into situations like that.Cos it could turn ugly.Sometimes they're harmless and just curious....sometimes not.And sometimes if you're friendly and talkative, they might take it the wrong way and think that you want to jump them or something.Sometimes it's best to keep your chin up lass and JUST KEEP WALKING,but sometimes it's good to throw smartarse remarks right back at them!

i'd actually be down with more surftrips while i'm there than just the last dec week like i had said since it  sounds like you don't have to drive too far from manila to get to a break.  so basically, i don't know my schedule... i know it will be hectic and there wil be 3 weddings going on.... but i would like to hit ANY possible surf outing with cool folk who want company from dec7-jan5.  i know i'll be in baguio from like the 10th for several days.that would be an excellent time to get my feet wet and the rest of my body too.  takers?

Wow you guys really like hunting in packs dont you. Probably safer that way. Listen Al I will definitely be going to Majestics in June / July so hone your surfing skills and tag along if you want. No nightlife except gin drinking though.
Millie the swells heading your way even Agnes Waters is probably going to get waves in the next few days. This is one mother of a swell to go with the massive fires that are ringing Sydney at the moment. Dont think the grub you met in Manila is the same one. He's to paranoid to leave the Goldie.
Stacey just tell em the truth and bring one of your cousins along as a chaperone so that they feel comfortable with you venturing out into the big bad Philippines. Dont spin though nothing is going to happen to you. Those guys that hassled Millie in Davao are not a common occurance and as I said before there are enough good intentioned Filipinos to help you out.
Millie I cant believe you freaked and jumped on a jeepney. Just scream rape as load as you can next time and people will come from everywhere to see whats happening. You only get yourself into trouble in the Phillies if you start it yourself or you go to the Jolo / Sulu area. I bet the surf pumps down there and all the kidnappings and stuff are the locals way of keeping the crowds down. Ha ha
When your in Baler make sure you surf Cementos or your gonna miss all the fun.

hey al..I've got no definate plans as of yet.I don't like to plan things to detail which is probably why I nearly always end up surfing with like 1 other person or by myself.People get too pissed off at my lack of organisation and excessive spontaneity,but if it does push through I will be shouting your name out extremely LOUD!I'd like just for once to go surfing with LOTS of GOOD people...
