I'm a new surfer and I think I'm going crazy. I dont know if its normal but I sometimes imagine of sharks roaming when i'm at the line up. It started when I saw a video of a surfer getting attacked by 2 great white sharks in Ripley's. Wild Discover was not of great help when it featured sharks last night. Sometimes I get jumpy when I see my shadow and mistake it for some predator.

Are there man-eating sharks in the Philippines? Had there been a reported shark attacks here?

Hope you can help me.  

Statistics says that you are more likely bitten by pigs than sharks. So far i havent seen or heard any man-eating sharks here in P.I. but im sure there are alot of shark-eating people here including my relatives  
Who knows,maybe you'll be the 1st reported shark-attack casualty. Hahaha Kidding aside, its better if you join the line-up than worrying about sharks at home coz u might end up having a heart-attack instead..  

While surfing off the Florida coast, a tourist snapped his board. He could swim, but his fear of alligators kept him clinging to the broken board. Spotting and old beachcomber standing on the shore, the tourist shouted, "Are there any gators around here?!" "Naw," the man hollered back, "they ain't been around for years!" Feeling safe, the tourist started swimming leisurely toward the beachbreaks. About halfway there he asked the guy, "How'd you get rid of the gators?" "We didn't do nothin'," the beachcomber said. "Wow", said the tourist. The beachcomber added, "The sharks got 'em."  

U shouldnt pee while surfing coz the shark might sense it miles away.

Eew. U shouldn't pee in the in the water period!!

wear something stripes... or better paint ur board stripes. they say there's something in shark's brain that does'nt like stripes, a genetic thing. discovery channel stuff.

i guess we got tiger sharks here at our sea, they say great whites does'nt just stay on cold waters, even the tropical warm ones. no reports of worst case scenario yet (i hope it stay that way) but a lot on the fisherfolks. the sea is their territory though, so at least or better always do something nice for our playground to ease your 'sharky thoughts'.

I guess its normal. I actually don't mind now if there's sharks in the water as long as the swells keep on coming.

The only sharks you guys in the PI need to worry about are the ones that approach you on the street. There are enough surfers in South Oz and South Africa and the states to keep the big ones well fed
Theres only one way to avoid sharks and thats stay out of the water. Statistically more fish and seals get eaten by sharks every year so I think we are fine.
As for peeing in your wettie those of you who have surfed in cold water will know the joy you get when doing so.
And stripes on a board I don't think a tiger sharks going to be too bothered with that one.
