On the final day of the comp this year, Cloud 9 finally switched itself on to give local boy Edito "Piso" Alcala an epic win over defending champion Wade Goodall.

Piso was trailing right behind Wade in the final five minutes of the final heat. He needed a 9.0 score to move into the lead. And as the clock was winding down, he took off on a beautiful Cloud 9 barrel that earned him a 9.6. Woot, woot.

So CONGRATULATIONS to Piso for being the first Pinoy to win an international competition in Siargao since the 90s. Way to bring it back home baby!

Go go Pinoy!!!

During Piso's semi finals heat, he was surfing against Lee Wilson. He took the lead in the final moments of the heat (just like the finals). Lee needed a 9.3 to advance to the finals. His final score? 9.27! WILD! Super exciting.

During the semis it was an 8.3 that Lee needed and he got an 8.27. Kage and I kept looking at each other and biting or fingernails because we were so nervous. During the finals Piso brought the house down and left no doubt who was the champion... I mean like NO DOUBT! It was a very great day for Pilipino surfing.

And hey, Chris Sullivan from green zinc was out every day switching the trash bins and segregating all the trash for it to get picked up. He deserves a lot of thanks for the heart and the work that he is putting into keeping the environment clean through Green Zinc!
