I been surfin for quiet a time but still hard for me to ask someone to join me for a surf trip.   Surfin alone is boring.   It makes me tired easily.Being with a friend,makes surfing more exciting and makes you strive for your best wave.  SHOW WHAT YOU GOT!

A small bunch of super friendly surfers here in Zambales might chance to go with u on a surftrip. You might even wanna discover the 17 awesome zambales surfspots!

please be careful with describing spots awesome or the like. have surfed spots in zambales like san narciso and it was far from awesome. more like weak and mushy. and at times when 4casts were good. maybe you've scored since you live there, but i came upon your invite and was sorely disappointed. sorry but just telling it like it is.

i think since it's not reef breaks and mostly sand bars swells dont' get big and don't last long, surely not awesome.

Alona I dont think whether or not it is a reef setup or a beach break has anything to do with how big the surf can get or how long it lasts. Also I had a surf in Zambales about 15 years ago and maybe I lucked in but it was almost as good as any I have had anywhere else in the PI. Zambales like everywhere else in the PI is reliant on typhoon swells and good wind conditions and unlike most of the more well known spots the place doesnt really sit in the swell paths. On its day like anywhere else in the world it would be pumping. One last thing the majority of Pinoys are just learning to surf so what is awesome to them may not be to you or I. Let them describe it anyway they like. Remember if you go at the wrong time to any surf spot in the world you will be disappointed. Australia, Indo and Hawaii dont always have waves do they.

hi mark,im all for stoke and enthusiasm but not hype or delusion. the zambales breaks have been described as 400m long, world class, etc by this hospitable folk in one site, i forget which.

given same swell n conditons a reef break would give better bigger more consistent wavs than a sand bar, especiually shifty ones like in zambales.

the sand in zambales ive been told by oldtimers used to be firmer and darker, like in la union or pacific coast, but pinatubo added fine dust which made it fluffier, more shifty.  so a change in swell direction or
heavier waves can mess up the bottom pretty easily

the isles like capones hold promise but bancas can't get there when it's pumping

Mark Im not saying that surfing should be competing with others.  What I'm trying to say is that not all surfing spots have lots of locals to accompany you like in La Union or daet.   I went to zambales (sorry zambales surfing asso.) Once or twice, (Its better not to mention the place), the waves are good but there is no one surfing at that area.   I cant even find somebody where I could ask which area is better to surf or where could I spend the nyt.  But same things, I love surfing alone if not with few friends.   Surfing with someone is not showing off but giving you a chance to exchange Ideas about your surfing trips, knowing the point of view of your co-surfers and most specially to give you comment   about your performance in order for you to improve more.

i once surfed alone in a place where theres no one and no surf community. that was december last year. waves were good and there was a bit of fear in the beginning. at the end of the day i enjoyed the surf more than ive ever enjoyed surfing other spots. no one aside from me was going for the sets, i got all the good waves i couldve gotten. no complains from this end. a friend or two wouldnt make a diff, as long as i get good waves.

I'm a new surfer and tell you first hand the pros and cons of surfing with buddies and surfing alone.

The best thing when you are surfing alone is that you can have all the waves you want. There will no worries about positioning yourself properly to get the best wave. Compare that when you are with your more experienced surfing buddies. Definitely, you will have to wait for them to get their waves which would mean the best waves, then and only then can you get your own which is the smallest of a set of waves. Remember that they are more experienced hence, they know how to position themselves and can paddle faster. Poor you; just wait for the crumbs to come your way. It's nice if your buddies are a little considerate like  my buddies here who will tolerate some drop ins by their rookies.

The worst thing about surfing alone is that it is not advisable in the first place; safety-wise that is. One time, my leash snapped when I was wiped-out by double overhead waves. They may look strong but believe me, these things snap. I tried to swim towards the shoreline w/c is 300 m away when I had leg cramps. Its good thing, I had my buddies who had to cancel the session and tow me.

One thing more, if you are alone when a shark attacks. You will be the only natural prey unlike when you are with buddies, at least you have the chance of not being served for dinner.

yeah... i'm used to going to daet alone... i dunno.. i should have posted to a different topic called going on a surf-trip alone and not surfing alone.. but hey... i've already had my share of surfing alone... sometimes it's scary... sometimes it's wild... specially when the waves are all calm except for the sets... and it's raining hard enough but not windy.... it's the serenity that's the best with surfing alone... and specially for people like me... who enjoys thinking... hehee... like... i only stop thinking when i have to ride.... all things stopped... and then i get wiped out.. hehehe... i've been surfing for almost two years now.. almost all the time that i went on a surf trip, i go alone... set-up my tent alone... but of course, the first time around, i wasn't alone.. or at least the next time i go to a spot i havent been yet, i'll have to prepare and contact people and mingle first...

i read in one of the posts here too that it's a big thing to befriend the locals.. specially if you're a one man surf nomad... coz they'll be your family there... that way, even if you're alone, you'll still be as safe as safe can be.. except if you're just very unlucky.. or all flashy and stuff... hehee... well if you see me, you'll think i'm a bum... so maybe that's the reason why they dont suck up on me or kill me on the spot.. hehe..

anyway... there are good reasons for surfing (i mean going out) with buddies... specially when waiting for the swells to come... it's when the fun of being with someone is... you won't go crazy talking to yourself... hehehe...
